The DVD rental and movie streaming service Netflix has announced a variety of new deals with independent film distributors to expand its instant streaming library. Deals with six new distributors will make roughly 300 new titles available for instant streaming. Some titles are already available, and others will come up throughout the year. The most interesting note here is that the deal appears to be only for streaming content; whether Netflix doesn’t want to purchase copies for all of its distribution centers or it’s a choice by the distributors themselves isn’t known. This is one of the few deals to exclude physical rentals and appears to be the largest of that nature. Netflix is putting a lot of stock in its streaming content, which appears to be paying off well for the company. Starting at $8.99 a month, Netflix members can instantly watch movies and TV episodes streamed to a variety of CE, as well as receive DVDs delivered by mail. |
