The new Bollywood film "Striker" will be perhaps the first in its genre to premiere specifically on Google’s YouTube this Friday, the same day as its theatrical release. The film will be one of the new round of content YouTube tests its rental offerings with and so far has an undisclosed sum; previous films were $3.99, but prices are said to be set through an agreement with each producer. In a bit of a surprise move, the rest of the world will have access to the service for free. It’s unclear whether accessing the YouTube site for another country will allow US users to get around the pay-wall. According to Variety, Rajshri Group premiered "Vivah" on its Web site on the same day of theatrical release back in 2006 for a fee, seeing 4 million global downloads. |
