When eyes first beheld Apple’s iPad, the mind conjured up all sorts of video options for the new leisure device which then turned thoughts to Hulu and Netflix — and yes, iTunes, too — for all that great video content in an intimate setting. As these dreams were still forming, Reed Hastings of Netflix came in to burst a bubble: "It’s not a huge priority for us because we’re so focused on the larger screens," he said. Hastings said in the company’s earnings call that the device isn’t quite up to snuff yet "until we get our TV ubiquity and our Blu-ray ubiquity and we’re getting close on video game ubiquity, then we would next turn to the small screen. So it’s something we will get around to, but it’s not in the near term." If ever there was an opening for Apple to fill the void with a TV and film content subscription service, it seems like this screen is the perfect place. |
